A. The Email Server
You can use any PC running Windows (95 or later) to act as your Email Server. This server becomes a post office that sends and receives your email. This computer must be able to connect to the Internet (via modem, ISDN, Cable, Sattelite, etc)
B. Your other computers
All the other computers connected to your LAN can now send and receive email through your Mail Server, as if they are connected to the internet. Messages can also be routed between the computers through A.
C. Hosted Server
To be able to receive internet email, your incoming mail must be delivered to a computer that has a permanent address and connection to the internet. It is designated through the configuring of MX records (Mail Exchangers).
If you do not have a hosted server, you can use our servers to store your email until you can collect them. Between A and C the emails are compressed, which means that your email can be delivered faster.
Fetching mail is another advanced featured provided by The Email Server. If you have one mail box with your Internet Service Provider with several aliasses, then the server will collect the emails and distribute them locally into separate local mailboxes.
D. Other Internet Mail Servers
Email is sent to and received from other servers using the SMTP or POP3 protocol. This means email can be delivered by or collected from any other server complying with these internet standards (most email servers do).
